Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern your use of Notary School (notary-school.com). By creating an account or purchasing a course, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. 1. What we are Notary School provides education about the functions and duties of a notary public, currently for the State of California. We are an education provider. We are not a law firm, we do not provide legal advice, and we are not the Secretary of State. Nothing on this site creates an attorney-client relationship. Course content describes what California law requires of a notary public; how any law applies to your particular situation is a question for an attorney. 2. State approval Approval of a course of study by the California Secretary of State is not an endorsement or recommendation by the Secretary of State. We display our current approval status on the site and on each course page, and we will publish our vendor identification number when one is issued. We do not claim approval we do not hold. 3. Eligibility and the right course California sets the education requirement by your circumstances, not your preference. A six-hour course of study is required of first-time applicants and of anyone whose commission has expired. A three-hour refresher is available only to a notary public who holds a current, unexpired commission, has previously completed an approved six-hour course, and takes the examination before that commission expires. You are responsible for selecting the course that matches your circumstances; if you tell us you chose wrongly, we will move you to the correct course. 4. Identity verification California regulations require an approved education vendor to establish the identity of every student and to print the type, number, expiration date and issuing state or country of the government photo identification on the Proof of Completion. You agree to provide accurate identification details and a legal name that matches that identification. We never collect Social Security numbers. Providing false identification information invalidates any Proof of Completion issued to you. 5. Instruction time and completion State law requires the full instruction time for the course you purchased. The site records your study time while a lesson is open and you are watching or reading. A Proof of Completion is issued only when every lesson and the full required time are complete; California does not permit partial credit. Attempting to defeat or falsify time tracking is a breach of these terms and voids any certificate issued. 6. Your Proof of Completion When you complete a course we issue a signed Proof of Completion. It is valid for two years from the date of issuance and must be attached to the notary public application you submit to the Secretary of State. It is issued to you personally and is not transferable. We may revoke a certificate obtained through false information. 7. Purchases and refunds Courses are sold as one-time purchases; there is no subscription. The refund policy is disclosed in full before any charge, as California regulations require, and forms part of these terms. See the Refund Policy page for the current terms. 8. Acceptable use Course materials are licensed to you for your own study. You may not copy, redistribute, resell, publish or share them, and you may not share your account. Automated access, scraping, and attempts to interfere with the service or other students' data are prohibited. 9. Content and accuracy Our content is written from the Secretary of State's official publications and is reviewed for accuracy; our editorial standards describe the process. Law changes, and errors are possible. If you find something wrong, tell us and we will check it against the official source and correct it. We do not warrant that you will pass the state examination. 10. Records We keep the records California requires of an approved education vendor, including the attendee list for each course, for the period the regulations require. Those records are disclosed only to the Secretary of State, a district attorney, a city attorney, or the Attorney General. 11. Changes and termination We may update these terms; continued use after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. We may suspend access for a breach of these terms. You may stop using the service at any time and request deletion of your account, subject to the records we are required to retain. 12. Contact Questions about these terms: support@notary-school.com.

This section describes how Notary School accesses, uses, stores, shares and retains data obtained through Google when you choose to sign in with Google. It supplements the Privacy Policy above. Data We Access When you select "Continue with Google," we use Google OAuth to authenticate you and request only the basic profile scopes: your name, email address, profile picture and your Google account identifier. We do not request access to Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Contacts or any other Google service, and we cannot read them. How We Use It Solely to create and sign you into your Notary School account, and to contact you about your course and your Proof of Completion. Your Google display name is a convenience only — the name printed on your Proof of Completion is the legal name you enter during identity verification, which must match your government photo identification. How We Store and Protect It Your email address and account identifier are stored in our authenticated user database. We never receive or store your Google password. All traffic is served over TLS. Sharing We do not sell or transfer Google user data to third parties, and we do not use it for advertising or to train any model. It is disclosed only to the service providers that host our application, and where the law requires. Retention and Deletion We retain it for as long as your account exists. You may disconnect Notary School from your Google account at any time in your Google account settings, and you may request account deletion by writing to support@notary-school.com. Note that the attendee and certificate records California requires an approved education vendor to keep are retained separately for the period the regulations require, as described in the Privacy Policy.
